Julie Ulmer has served as the Suwannee County School Board Member representing District 3 since 2002. Mrs. Ulmer is a graduate of Suwannee High School and the University of Florida with a degree in fine arts education. She is a former teacher and current business manager of Ulmer Construction. She is married to Jeremy Ulmer, and they have two sons, Blake and Brant.
Mrs. Ulmer made history by being the only School Board member in the State of Florida to have ever earned the Certified Board Member Distinction through the Florida School Boards Association (FSBA) in her first six months in office. The Certified Board Member Program requires course work in school law, finance, legislative issues, and other areas. She maintains the Certified Board Member Distinction. She has served on State level committees through FSBA and the Florida Department of Education.
Mrs. Ulmer has been an advocate for students, teachers, and parents. She has devoted her time volunteering many hours in Suwannee County Schools. She has served on the Suwannee Primary School (SPS) Kindergarten Readiness Committee, RIVEROAK Technical College (RTC) Early Learning Advisory Council, and as a Mentor for Take Stock in Children. She serves as a member of the RTC Advisory Council.
Mrs. Ulmer has not only been active in the schools, she has also been active in the community and her church. She served as a vestry member and Sunday School Teacher at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. She was Senior Warden in 2005. She is a past President of Altrusa International of Live Oak. She is the Public Relations Chairman of the GFWC Woman’s Club of Live Oak. She served on the Advent Christian Village Youth Leadership Advisory Committee and as a committee member for the Youth Advocacy Partnership’s Youth Leadership Awards.
